Key Dates in the History of the ASM

1917
The Fellowship of Professors of Missions of the Atlantic Seaboard was founded.
1952
The Association of Professors of Missions (APM) was founded.
1965
The Association of Evangelical Professors of Missions (AEPM) was founded.
1972
International Association of Mission Studies (IAMS) was founded.
1972
A meeting was convened for the purpose of founding the American Society of Missiology (ASM).
1972
The bi-monthly journal Practical Anthropology ceased publication with its November/December issue, Volume 19, Number 6.
1973
The ASM quarterly journal Missiology: An International Review commenced publication with its January issue, Volume I, Number 1.
1973
The organizing meeting of the ASM was held.
1974 The By-Laws of the ASM were adopted as its formal constitution.
1974
The ASM became an affiliate member society of IAMS.
1976
The ASM became a constituent society of the Council on the Study of Religion (CSR), later renamed the Council of Societies for the Study of Religion (CSSR).
1980 
The inaugural volume in the ASM Series was published by Orbis Books. 
1997 The inaugural volume in the ASM Dissertation Series was published by the University Press of America.
1997 A Manual of Operations was adopted as a frame of reference for ASM procedures.
