Benjamin Hartley

President 

Benjamin L. Hartley is Associate Professor of Mission and World Christianity in the School of Theology at Seattle Pacific University. Prior to joining Seattle Pacific University in 2021 he served at George Fox University in Oregon as a faculty fellow in the William Penn Honors Program and taught classes in mission and world Christianity. From 2005 to 2016 he was on the faculty at Palmer Theological Seminary of Eastern University near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He received his Th.D. (Doctor of Theology) and M.Div degree (2005 and 1999) from Boston University School of Theology, a Master of Science degree from Michigan State University’s College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (1997) where he studied international development, and a B.S. degree from Wheaton College in Illinois. His research interests include the life of 1946 Nobel laureate John R. Mott, (about whom he is currently working on a new biography), the history of Christian mission in the Pacific Northwest (USA), history of Methodist mission, urban religious history, and diaconal studies. He has published several articles in journals such as the International Bulletin of Mission Research, Missiology, and Methodist Review. He is the author of Evangelicals at a Crossroads: Revivalism and Social Reform in Boston (2011), co-edited Transforming Teaching for Mission: Educational Theory and Practice (2014), and co-authored The Deacon: Ministry through Words of Faith and Acts of Love (1998). He served as the President of the Association of Professors of Mission in 2014. Ben is an ordained permanent deacon in the Oregon-Idaho Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.

William Gregory

William P. Gregory is Associate Professor of Religious Studies at Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa. He received his Ph.D. in systematic theology from Boston College in 2006 after teaching for two years with the Christian Brothers in The Gambia, West Africa. His research interests include Catholic theology of mission, religious epistemology, intellectual challenges to religious faith, and the US context of Christian mission. He served as President of the Association of Professors of Mission in 2011 and edited Go Forth: Toward a Community of Missionary Disciples (Orbis, 2019), a collection of Pope Francis’s teachings on mission. He has published articles in the International Bulletin of Mission Research and the International Review of Mission.

Darren Duerksen is Associate Professor of Intercultural and Religious Studies at Fresno Pacific University in Fresno, California. He received his Ph.D. in Intercultural Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary in 2011 and an M.Div from Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary (Fresno, CA) in 2002. He has served as a missionary with the U.S. Mennonite Brethren Church in India and, previous to that, with Youth With a Mission based in England. His research interests include Christian witness other faiths, Christian and interfaith relationships and collaboration, global theologies, theologies of church, Indian Christianity, and Critical Realism/Emergent theory. He has published articles in the International Bulletin of Mission Research and the International Journal of Frontier Missiology. He is the author of Christ-Followers in Other Religions: The Global Witness of Insider Movements (Regnum 2022), co-author with William Dyrness of Seeking Church: Emerging Witnesses to the Kingdom (IVP 2019), and author of Ecclesial Identities in Multi-faith Contexts: Jesus Truth-Gatherings (Yeshu Satsangs) among Hindus and Sikhs in Northwest India (Wipf and Stock 2015). Darren is ordained with the Pacific District Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches.

David Scott

Dr. David W. Scott is Director of Mission Theology at the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church, where his work helps Methodists around the world reflect on the nature of mission through research, writing, and training. He has taught mission, church history, world religions, and leadership at Ripon College, Eden Theological Seminary, and through the United Methodist Course of Study. He is the author or editor of the books Unlikely FriendsThe Practice of Mission in Global MethodismMethodist Mission at 200Crossing Boundaries, and Mission as Globalization as well as numerous articles and book chapters. He coordinated the 200th anniversary celebration (in 2019) of the founding of the first Methodist mission society in the United States and has contributed to the Commission on World Mission and Evangelism’s work on mission from the margins and the 100th anniversary of the founding of the International Missionary Council.
